- ItemBlahoslavený Edmund Bojanowski - vychovávateľ a zakladateľ Rehole Sestier Služobníčok Božej Rodičky Panny Nepoškvrnené Počatej(VERBUM – vydavateľstvo Katolíckej univerzity v Ružomberku, 2013) Opiela, Maria LoyolaThe way that blessed Edmund Bojanowski followed in his life shows how God works in the world and as large format are the ones who are able to work with Him. Also it points to the life and ministry of the congregation of the Little Servant Sisters, to which as founder he gave rise, and the congregation is still developing as a result of his spiritual fatherhood. In this lush reality, his multiple talents are reflected, thanks to which he constantly pursued for holiness, was also able to read the "signs of the times" and in inspired way responded to ever-new needs and social problems. Not only he did this in the social or cultural dimension, but also in spiritual dimension, he drew the proper motivation for unselfish service from both religion and faith. He saw the life of man, society and all mankind as full participation in the temporal and eternal reality integrated in nature, history, culture and religion. In this context, he read out the objectives of human life and actions motivated by values which have its beginning and fulfillment in God.
- ItemDisclosure to God as a Mediator Between Private Prayer and Psychological Well-Being in a Christian Sample(Springer Nature, 2021) Zarzycka, Beata; Krok, DariuszAlthough a number of studies have reported the psychological and physical benefits of prayer, only a few have examined the means by which prayer affects health. Winkeljohn Black et al. (J Relig Health 54(2):540-553, 2015. https://doi.org/10.1007/s10943-014-9840-4) found disclosure to God as a mediator in the relationship between prayer and mental health. In their study, the authors used Poloma and Pendleton’s (Rev Relig Res 31(1):46-53, 1989. https://doi.org/10.2307/3511023, ) model of prayer. This study examined whether disclosure to God as a mediator can be upheld with Laird et al.’s (Int J Psychol Relig 14(4):251–272, 2004) prayer model. The study included 285 Polish adults (50.2% of women), aged between 18 and 60 years. The Multidimensional Prayer Inventory, the Revised Distress Disclosure Index, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale were applied to the research. The results showed that the prayer of thanksgiving correlated positively and the prayer of supplication negatively with well-being. Two indirect effects were significant, indicating disclosure to God as a mediator of the confession — well-being link and the supplication — well-being link.
- ItemExplaining the Relationship Between Post-Critical Beliefs and Sense of Coherence in Polish Young, Middle, and Late Adults(Springer Nature, 2014) Zarzycka, Beata; Rydz, ElżbietaThe subject of the presented research is the analysis of relations between Post-Critical Belief and Sense of Coherence in women and men in early, middle, and late adulthood. Six hundred and thirty-six individuals participated in the research, 332 women and 304 men, at the age of 18-79 years. We applied the Post-Critical Belief scale by Hutsebaut (J Empir Theol 9:48-66, 1996) and the Sense of Coherence scale (SOC-29) by Antonovsky (Soc Sci Med 36:725-733, 1993). The results suggest that the salutogenic function of religiosity is related to age and gender — in women, it is most strongly marked in late, and in men, in middle adulthood.
- ItemInternal Dialogue as a Mediator of the Relationship Between Prayer and Well-Being(Springer Nature, 2020) Puchalska-Wasyl, Małgorzata; Zarzycka, BeataWhen people are praying, they are not only communicating with God (upward prayer), but also they are exploring their relationships with themselves (inward prayer) and with other people (outward prayer). Internal dialogical activity includes areas which correspond to upward, inward, and outward prayer. Therefore, the aim of this article is to examine whether and how internal dialogues can be mediators in the relationship between these three types of prayer and well-being. Data from 193 respondents (143 females) were analyzed in the study. We used: the Prayer Thoughts Scale, the Internal Dialogical Activity Scale, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. The results showed that internal dialogue served as a mediator of the relationship between upward, inward, and outward prayer and well-being.
- ItemKompetencje medialne nauczycieli w dobie nowych technologii.
- ItemPorozumienie Republiki Armenii i Republiki Azerbejdżanu z 9 listopada 2020 r. w sprawie Górskiego Karabachu – charakter prawny oraz implikacje polityczne(Wydział Nauk Politycznych i Studiów Międzynarodowych, Uniwersytet Warszawski, 2021) Tabaszewski, Robert; Machowicz, KingaArtykuł dotyczy charakteru prawnego i konsekwencji politycznych Porozumienia z dnia 9 listopada 2020 r. w sprawie Górskiego Karabachu.
- ItemPro-health measures as a creator of new behavior norms and attitudes(Oddział PAN w Krakowie; Uniwersytet Jagielloński – Collegium Medicum, 2022) Fałek, Paulina; Adamczyk, Tomasz; Fałek, Artur; Burdan, FranciszekThe monograph analyzes health behaviors and main factors on the basis of which it is possible to transform a lifestyle generally focused on the well-being of an individual and society. According to WHO, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not only the absence of a disease. The definition clearly explains its multidimensional and multithreaded character dependent subjectively on every individual and on social and cultural conditions. Health in its general meaning becomes a subjective human feeling. Each individual plays an important role in the process of providing it. Good health condition can be achieved by proper nutrition, regular doctor’s check-up visits and active way of life. Health behaviors are still a key element of the daily activity of everyone. Despite the fact that full knowledge of the concept of “healthy lifestyle” prevails, still many people avoid categorical statements. In response to questions about lifestyle, a significant number of respondents often indicate an intention or willingness to change, or to partially comply with the requirements, which results from weakness and lack of determination in action. Knowledge supported by the offer of attractive models that promote the right patterns of behavior can have a positive impact on the global health of the society.
- ItemRadio w przestrzeni nowych mediów. Perspektywa dziennikarska(Polskie Towarzystwo Retoryczne, 2015) Wójciszyn-Wasil, Aneta
- ItemReligiosity, Meaning-Making and the Fear of COVID-19 Affecting Well-Being Among Late Adolescents in Poland: A Moderated Mediation Model(Springer Nature, 2021) Krok, Dariusz; Zarzycka, Beata; Telka, EwaAdolescents have come to be greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing containment measures in recent months. The aim of the present study was to examine the relations among religiosity, meaning-making, fear of COVID-19, and subjective well-being within a moderated mediation model. Three hundred and sixteen late adolescents (173 women and 143 men) in Poland volunteered to take part in the study. The results show that meaning-making mediated relationships between religiosity and life satisfaction, religiosity and positive affect, and religiosity and negative affect. In addition, these mediation effects were moderated by the fear of COVID-19. Specifically, the indirect effects were stronger for adolescents with high fear than for those with low fear, which indicates that fear of COVID-19 serves as a ‘warning’ factor.
- ItemSex differences in self-perceived employability and self-motivated strategies for learning in Polish first-year students(Public Library of Science, 2022) Domagała-Zyśk, Ewa; Fudali-Czyż, Agnieszka; Mamcarz, Piotr; Martynowska, Klaudia; Rothwell, AndrewSelf-perceived employability (SPE) is defined as the ability to attain sustainable employment appropriate to one’s qualification level (Rothwell 2008) and perceived as a crucial factor in university graduates’ career development. Meanwhile, University students are mainly assessed through the lens of academic achievement, which depend, inter alia, on the self-motivated strategies for learning (MSL). Firstly, we tested hypothesised sex differences in SPE’s and MSL’s factors in a group of the first-year university students (n = 600) in a Central European context. Our analyses revealed that female students, despite their higher results in MSL’s factors (self-regulation, learning strategies, intrinsic values, self-efficacy) presented lower internal SPE than male students. Secondly, we explored how much general SPE can be predicted from general MSL, taking into account sex as a moderator, finding that sex factor was not significant as a moderator. We can consider general MSL as a good predictor of general SPE in both sex groups. The results will provide evidence to support HEI curricular development and strategies for workplace attitude change to address existing sex inequalities. In addition, our findings relating to MSL will provide evidence to support the development of approaches to enhancing student employability with additional long term benefits in mental health and well-being.
- ItemSpiritual Growth or Decline and Meaning-Making as Mediators of Anxiety and Satisfaction with Life During Religious Struggle(Springer Nature, 2019) Zarzycka, Beata; Ziętek, PawełA number of studies have demonstrated links between spiritual struggles and health problems. As yet, however, only a few studies have investigated what makes religious struggle a source of mental problems or a source of well-being. We determined whether spiritual growth, spiritual decline, and meaning-making mediated the relationship between religious struggle and anxiety and satisfaction with life. Of the 180 respondents, 92 were women, and mean (SD) age was 24 (8.2) years. Each respondent completed the Religious and Spiritual Struggles Scale, the Meaning-Making Scale, the Spiritual Transformation Scale, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Religious struggle correlated positively with anxiety and negatively with satisfaction with life. Spiritual growth mediated the relationship between moral and demonic struggle with satisfaction with life, and spiritual decline mediated the relationship between demonic, moral, and interpersonal struggle with anxiety. Finally, meaning-making mediated the relationship between religious doubt and satisfaction with life.
- ItemSpołeczno-religijne wychowanie młodzieży w systemie prewencyjnym św. Jana Bosko(VERBUM – vydavateľstvo Katolíckej univerzity v Ružomberku, 2012) Łuczyński, AndrzejChallenges that are faced by today's educational system relate to searching for effective ways of educating the young people of today who are often confused and lost in the world of moral and religious relativism. Father John Bosco, an Italian educator of the 19th century created a still applicable and effective system of preventive education which poses a great model of social and religious education of the youth. So as to prevent the youth from a moral decline father Bosco decided to prepare them for an independent life in a fast changing community. Qualifications (profession) as well as some religious grounds were offered to the young person. The article presents st. John Bosco's preventive system as an effective tool in the process of shaping mature social and religious attitudes of the youth. The text demonstrates the originality of the preventive system where the fundaments are the intellect, religion and loving-kindness (a special quality of friendliness on the part of the educator).
- ItemThe Catholic Church in Poland, Her Faithful, and the Restrictions on Freedom to Practise Religion during the First Wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic(MDPI, 2022-12-19) Stanisz, Piotr; Wadowski, Dariusz; Szulich-Kałuża, Justyna; Nowak, Małgorzata; Chmielewski, MirosławW odpowiedzi na szybkie rozprzestrzenianie się epidemii koronawirusa władze państwowe w Polsce, podobnie jak w innych krajach w innych krajach zdecydowały się na wprowadzenie różnych ograniczeń praw i wolności, w tym wolności praktyk religijnych.
- Item“The Contemporary” as a Teleological Category in the Context of Educational Relation(2020-08) Jeziorański, Marek“The Contemporary” as a Teleological Category in the Context of Educational Relation The aim of the article is to solve a problem expressed in the question: how “the contemporary” can be a teleological category in the context of the educational process. In response to this issue, an initial attempt was made to outline a map of pedagogical activity in the context of basic temporal references which include: retrospective orientation, contemporary orientation and prospective orientation. Then, on the basis of separately adopted temporal perspectives, an attempt was made to show them to formulate the basic objectives of upbringing. It has been concluded that the disconnection of these perspectives is not beneficial for the upbringing process, but rather their integration is an appropriate approach. This was called the postulate of the temporal integrity of pedagogy and two models of realization of this postulate were proposed: chronoagogic and kairoagogic.
- Item“The culture of fear” of inhabitants of EU countries in their reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic – A study based on the reports of the Eurobarometer(Elsevier, 2021) Gruchoła, Małgorzata; Sławek-Czochra, MałgorzataThe aim of the paper was a study of public opinion of the inhabitants of the European Union as regards the reaction and perception of the COVID-19 pandemic on the basis of weekly reports of the Eurobarometer: Public opinion monitoring in the time of COVID-19, containing data from member EU countries (March-July 2020: first wave of pandemic). It was assumed that during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the lack of a sense of security (health, economic and social) was the result not by personal experience (a real threat), but was cultivated and communicated by the media, creating a culture of fear. The opinions were analyzed in three problem domains: health, economy and society, taking into account fears and their functions, experiences and declarations for solving the problems generated by the pandemic. A quantitative analysis of the content of the reports was applied as well as a qualitative analysis of the content and an analytical-descriptive one. Seven research hypotheses were accepted, of which 3 were affirmed: fear of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects is presently a more widespread problem than the pandemic itself. The level of fear as regards the effects of the pandemic exceeds the level of negative experiences. In the domain of the health effects, the greatest fear is engendered by contact with COVID-19 which may cause infection: 14 fears. The remaining hypotheses were refuted: the level of fear of inhabitants of EU countries regarding health consequences/dangers (46) does not exceed the level of fear regarding economical (75) and social (19) consequences/dangers. In the domain of economical consequences/dangers, the most fears: 37, are caused by fear of an economical crisis and not one of unemployment (17) - as was assumed. Social isolation is more often experienced (13) and present in declarations (16) of inhabitants of the EU than in their fears (4). Fears of the consequences/dangers of COVID-19 plays, most of all, a negative function (137/74) and not a positive one - as assumed.
- ItemThe Relationship of Religious Comfort and Struggle with Anxiety and Satisfaction with Life in Roman Catholic Polish Men: The Moderating Effect of Sexual Orientation(Springer Nature, 2017) Zarzycka, Beata; Rybarski, Radosław; Śliwak, JacekThe aim of the research was to analyze the relationships of religious comfort and struggle with state anxiety and satisfaction with life in homosexual and heterosexual samples of men. A hundred and eight men aged between 18 and 43 participated in the research in total, 54 declared themselves as homosexual and 54 as heterosexual. The Religious Comfort and Strain Scale, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Satisfaction with Life Scale were applied to the research. The results of hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that sexual orientation moderated the relationships of religious comfort and struggle with state anxiety and satisfaction with life. The highest state anxiety was observed in homosexual participants with high negative social interactions surrounding religion scores. Negative religious social interactions with fellow congregants and religious leaders, including disapproval and criticism, create anxiety among homosexual people. It seems that homosexual participants are engaged in a trade-off between valued and necessary religious engagement and the harassment and persecution they may be forced to endure in order to access that engagement.
- ItemThe Religious Meaning System and Resilience in Spouse Caregivers of Cancer Patients: A Moderated Mediation Model of Hope and Affect(Springer Nature, 2021) Krok, Dariusz; Zarzycka, Beata; Telka, EwaThe character of the relationship between religiosity and resilience depends to a large extent on mediation and moderation mechanisms which rely on cognitive and emotional processes. Research conducted within hope theory and the broaden and build theory indicates that hope and affect can mediate and moderate this relationship. The present study explored whether the relationship of the religious meaning system with resilience in spouse caregivers of cancer patients can be mediated by hope and simultaneously moderated by positive and negative affect. A total of 241 spouse caregivers completed a set of questionnaires. The results revealed that hope mediated the relationship between the religious meaning system and resilience. Furthermore, positive affect but not negative affect moderated the indirect effect of the religious meaning system to resilience through hope.
