    Odejście od Transcendencji. Współczesna młodzież polska wobec religii i duchowości

    Artykuł przedstawia rozważania inspirowane wynikami badań International Civic and Citizenship Education Study, które pokazują, że w Polsce w latach 2009-2022 aż dla trzydziestu procent uczniów klas ósmych religia przestała być istotnym elementem ich światopoglądu. Jest to symptomatyczny wynik, który wymaga refleksji nad tym, (1) jakie są najważniejsze przyczyny takiej sytuacji, (2) czym młodzież próbuje zastępować religię, oraz (3) jakie mogą być skutki zastępowania religii tak zwaną nową duchowością. W kwestii pierwszej kilka poważnych przyczyn wiąże się z samym Kościołem i stylem prowadzenia przezeń ewangelizacji, który wydaje się raczej ułatwiać niż utrudniać „milczącą apostazję” wiernych. W kwestii drugiej istotne rozróżnienia dotyczą alternatyw skrajnych, odrzucających religię, oraz umiarkowanych, nakierowanych na poszukiwanie innej religii lub jej namiastki. W kwestii trzeciej podkreślona została różnica między duchowością katolicką a parareligijną formą duchowości bez religii oraz propozycjami ateistycznej duchowości bez Boga. Doświadczenia psychiczne i emocjonalne, jak również psychodeliczne, wraz z technikami ich wywoływania, nie wzmacniają racjonalnej kontroli człowieka nad własnym życiem, kształtując raczej (często ryzykowny) styl jego życia, nie zaś ludzką zdolność do kierowania własnymi wyborami w perspektywie doskonałości i ostatecznego przezwyciężenia zła. The article presents considerations inspired by the results of the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study, which shows that in Poland, between 2009 and 2022, as much as thirty percent of eighth-grade students ceased to consider religion an important part of their worldview. This is a symptomatic result, which calls for reflection on (1) what the most important reasons for this situation are, (2) what young people are trying to replace religion with, and (3) what might be the consequences of replacing religion with the so-called new spirituality. On the first issue, some serious causes can be seen in the Church itself and in the style of evangelization it pursues, which seems to facilitate rather than hinder the “silent apostasy” of its faithful. On issue two, important distinctions are made between the extreme alternatives, which reject religion, and the moderate ones, focused on the pursuit of a new religion or a substitute for the existing one. Issue three highlights the difference between Catholic spirituality on the one hand and the para-religious form of spirituality without religion and proposals for an atheistic spirituality without God on the other. Mental and emotional experiences, including psychedelic ones, along with the techniques used to induce them, do not enhance a person’s rational control over his or her own life, shaping an (often risky) lifestyle rather than the human ability to guide one’s own choices in the perspective of perfection and the ultimate overcoming of evil.

    Theodicy perspective as an effect of the interpenetration of mental and religious issues during the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland

    The authors of the article wanted to answer the question regarding to what extent the different types of experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic, understood as codes from the medical subsystem, differentiate the level of intensity of religious attitudes of Poles. For this purpose, the validity of the hypothesis derived from Niklas Luhmann’s theory was verified. According to this theory, the interpenetration of mental and religious systems in times of a pandemic causes the emergence of meanings that reorder communication with other social systems. The obtained research results indicate that the COVID-19 experience is such a dominant variable in determining religious behaviour that demographic variables in pandemic conditions turn out to be statistically insignificant. The interpenetration of mental and social systems goes beyond these differences, since it concerns the basics of communication and confronting the existing ways of encoding events with the environment that introduces serious disturbances in the flow of information.
